Project details

About the course:
With the 2005 AISC Specification for Structural Steel Buildings, the state of art was advanced to include three methods for stability design, including the powerful new approach-the direct analysis method (DM). The DM is a practical alternative to the more traditional effective length method (ELM), which has been the stability considerations in earlier editions of the AISC Specification, and continues to be permitted. In the 2010 AISC Specification, the DM is presented in Chapter C as the primary method. This short course will introduce the basic requirements of the DM, the limitations on the use of the traditional ELM, and the application of the DM with seismic design. Different examples and analytical models using STAAD Pro software will be presented. The course shall be three days, each day five hours including a break in between.
